Text: Genesis 1–3 (focus on Genesis 2:15–17; 3:1–24)
The story of Adam and Eve is the beginning of the Bible and the beginning of humanity. It teaches us who God is, who we are, and why the world needs God’s help and grace.
God Created Everything Good
God created the world, the animals, and finally Adam and Eve.
l They were made in God’s image
l They lived in the Garden of Eden
l They had everything they needed
l They walked and talked with God
God said His creation was very good.
Lesson: God created us with love and purpose. We are not accidents.
God’s One Command
God gave Adam and Eve freedom, but He gave one command:
“You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
This command was not meant to hurt them—it was meant to protect them.
Lesson: God’s rules are for our good, even when we don’t fully understand them.
The Temptation
The serpent came and tempted Eve.
l He made her doubt God’s word
l He made sin look good and harmless
l Adam and Eve chose to disobey God
They ate the fruit and immediately felt shame and fear.
Lesson: Temptation often begins by making us doubt God and trust ourselves instead.
Sin Enters the World
After they sinned:
l They hid from God
l They blamed others
l Their relationship with God was broken
This is called the Fall—sin entering the world.
Lesson: Sin separates us from God and affects every part of life.
God’s Judgment and God’s Mercy
God punished Adam and Eve for their disobedience:
l Life became harder
l They were sent out of the garden
But God also showed mercy:
l He clothed them
l He promised a Savior who would defeat evil (Genesis 3:15)
Lesson: God is just, but He is also loving and merciful.
What This Story Teaches Us Today
God loves us and wants a relationship with us
l Disobedience has consequences
l God seeks us even when we hide
l God provides hope even after failure
l We all need a Savior
Conclusion
Adam and Eve made a wrong choice, but God did not give up on humanity. From the very beginning, God had a plan to rescue us through Jesus Christ.
When we fall, God calls out to us just like He did in the garden:
“Where are you?”
He invites us to come back to Him.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for creating us and loving us. Help us to trust You and obey Your word. Thank You for Your mercy when we fail. Amen.
